The sea is a space of mystery, fear, and comfort that marks time yet seems separate from it. All life originates from the sea; for the first nine months of our lives, we are underwater. Upon close examination, relics of death and life are scattered across the beach: tiny discarded shells, sea glass, and seagull carcasses all contribute to the grander, unchanging landscape. Feeling both minute and immense is, to me, the hallmark of being human.
